Arizona has launched its 2026 festivities with a military band and F-16 flyover — and a commitment to celebrate veterans and military.

“It only happens once. It’s an outstanding opportunity for Arizonans and Americans to come together and think about the American spirit and unity,” said Laura Terech, executive director of the Arizona America250 Commission.

Among activities planned is a relay along the Arizona Trail from the Mexico border to Utah with 250 sections for members of the military and veterans and their families to run, walk, or bike. The scenic trail  stretches 800 miles across the state and links deserts, mountains, canyons, and forests with history. The relay, with details being finalized, will be offered from summer 2025 through summer 2026, and an online portal will let you pick a stretch of land to traverse. Other festivities include a traveling museum with a replica of the Liberty Bell as well as historic exhibitions touring the state beginning in early 2026.

“We’ll be showcasing America’s proud history,” Terech said.

For an Independence Day fireworks show, consider the city of Tempe. If visiting the Grand Canyon, where fireworks are prohibited, check out nearby community fireworks and parades with a blend of natural beauty and festive traditions.

Something Extra: Honor fallen soldiers in the USS Arizona Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale where uncovered remnants of USS Arizona sit on 5 acres and are open to the public at no charge. Learn more here.
