Advocates highlighted five bills in a message to lawmakers marking the end of Women’s History Month, saying their passage would “address longstanding gaps in research, health care, mental health access, and claims processes” faced by women in uniform and women veterans.
[TAKE ACTION: Enhance Support for Women Veterans]
MOAA joined Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wounded Warrior Project, and other organizations in the March 26 message delivered to all House and Senate members.
It pushes for passage of the:
- Servicewomen and Women Veterans Menopause Research Act (H.R. 2717 | S. 1320), which would require Pentagon and VA officials to assess existing research and fill knowledge gaps related to menopause, perimenopause, and “mid-life women’s health,” to include service in general and the effects of toxic exposure in particular.
- Improving Menopause Care for Veterans Act (H.R. 219), which requires a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on VA menopause care that would recommend improvements to both the quality of and access to such care.
- Building Resources and Access for Veterans’ Mental Health Engagement (BRAVE) Act (H.R. 6024 | S. 609), which would improve VA outreach on gender-specific mental health risks while expanding Vet Center capacity and extending suicide prevent grants.
- Improving VA Training for Military Sexual Trauma Claims Act (H.R. 2201), which would require updated training for VA employees and contractors. The bill passed the House in May 2025 and is under Senate consideration.
- Servicemembers and Veterans Empowerment and Support Act (H.R. 2576 | S. 1245), which would expand military sexual trauma care and benefits, to include improved VA communications practices.
Women veterans face “persistent disparities in care and benefits” which “continue to undermine women veterans’ post-service health outcomes,” the letter states. “Passing these bills would meaningfully improve access to high quality, gender-responsive care and strengthen the systems that women veterans rely on throughout their lives.”
