Military exchanges are more than retail stores. They provide tax-free shopping and services tailored to the military community, and exchange earnings help support important morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs.

MOAA has long worked to protect the value of this earned benefit and ensure proposed changes do not reduce customer savings, limit access, or divert funding from MWR programs.

As a member of the Exchange Retiree Advisory Council, MOAA can raise issues and make recommendations to key exchange leaders. The group’s next meeting takes place Sept. 9; your firsthand experiences help us identify concerns, recognize successful programs, and bring practical ideas to the forefront.

Consider sharing your thoughts on:

• Product availability, selection, quality, and pricing
• Customer service and store hours
• Online shopping, delivery, returns, and website usability
• Access to exchange facilities and services
• Differences among exchange locations or service branches
• Services or products you would like exchanges to add
• Programs that are working especially well and should be expanded

Access remains an important issue. Shopping privileges have expanded in recent years to include additional veterans, caregivers, and survivors (as well as civilians with Common Access Cards), but some eligible shoppers have faced challenges navigating installation-access and credentialing requirements. MOAA has advocated for careful oversight of proposals to consolidate or privatize elements of the military resale system, emphasizing that modernization and efficiency efforts must preserve the benefit for authorized patrons and protect exchange support for MWR programs.

Whether you shop at an Army and Air Force Exchange, Navy Exchange, Marine Corps Exchange, or Coast Guard Exchange – or use exchange services online – your perspective matters.
