The 21st Annual MOAA Charities Golf Classic united golfers of various experience levels for a shared purpose: Supporting servicemembers, retirees, and veterans, as well as their families and survivors, through The MOAA Foundation and the MOAA Scholarship Fund.

TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Md., formerly a regular stop on the PGA Tour, welcomed 88 golfers for the May 19 event, raising more than $150,000 to provide vital support and resources to the greater military and veteran community.

“Thanks to your support, this tournament helps MOAA make a real difference in the lives of servicemembers, veterans, and their families all year long,” MOAA President and CEO Lt. Gen. Brian T. Kelly, USAF (Ret), told participants. “We’re especially grateful to our sponsors, board, and every donor – your generosity powers our mission and uplifts our entire community.”

“Thanks again to all of our sponsors, many of whom travel great distances to be here today,” said MOAA Board Chairman Gen. Thomas D. Waldhauser, USMC (Ret). “I hope the event matched your expectations, so thank you all very much. We hope to see you again next year.”

Matt Kreider, a member of the winning foursome, said the golf course was “in phenomenal shape” and that he was proud to participate in the event.

“Any time you get to play a golf course like this, with great friends and great company, all for a great cause, it’s a tough day to beat,” he said.

For many attendees, the tournament was more than just a day on the green – it was a meaningful introduction to the mission and community of MOAA. New MOAA member Capt. David Won, USMC, was participating in his first event with the organization and shared how the experience is the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

“The impact was really felt hole-by-hole,” Won said, noting displays at the event showing the impact work done by MOAA Charities has had on servicemembers and families. “This tournament was an opportunity for me to get exposure and become a member, and I’m looking forward to supporting MOAA in the future.”

Following the success of last year’s efforts, MOAA again welcomed golfers through the PGA HOPE Program. The charitable effort, which stands for Helping Our Patriots Everywhere, works to support servicemembers and veterans’ emotional and physical well-being by introducing them to golf.
