Thanks in no small part to grassroots support from MOAA’s more than 360,000 members, we’ve made remarkable progress on the two issues at the heart of this year’s Advocacy in Action campaign – reversing TRICARE pharmacy network cuts and restoring the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) to 100% of projected housing costs.

This month, we need to keep the pressure on. That’s why MOAA has launched an Advocacy in Action Summer Campaign, designed to engage lawmakers as they head home for the annual summer work period.

With the House and Senate yet to reconcile their differences to create a final version of the FY 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), it’s a great opportunity to connect with your legislators, either in person, by phone, or through MOAA-prepared letters.

Spouses can get involved, too – it helps to have both the member and spouse registered in MOAA’s Legislative Action Center to amplify our message.

Stronger Families, Stronger Force

As we head into this summer, MOAA’s focus is on protecting the all-volunteer force. This priority is captured by MOAA’s mission statement: To preserve and protect earned benefits for our uniformed services, veterans, their families, and surviving spouses through advocacy, leadership, education, and service.

The BAH decrement and housing challenges were top of mind for many servicemembers and their families. The changes to the pharmacy network affected some currently serving members, but most of the people impacted were retirees.

Here’s what you can expect throughout the month as we work to advance these issues through the NDAA process and beyond:

  • A deeper look into the House and Senate NDAA versions, and what they’ll mean for these concerns and others.
  • Updates to fact sheets and sample letters, enabling MOAA members and others to have the latest insights at their fingertips when engaging with legislators from home or in person.
  • Articles at MOAA.org outlining where each issue stands and the way forward to secure supportive language in the final version of the NDAA to be signed into law.

Don’t forget to register in MOAA’s Legislative Action Center – the links are safe and protected by our internal communications. Or text “MOAA” to 1 (855) 547-6921 and you’ll receive texts with links to advocacy information, news, and calls to action.
