TRICARE Select beneficiaries in Group A – those whose sponsor entered service before Jan. 1, 2018 – have just days to establish a payment plan for new enrollment fees that take effect Jan 1. Beneficiaries who don’t have payments set up by year’s end will be disenrolled from TRICARE Select.

If you haven’t set up your payment plan, you can do so using the following resources, based on your TRICARE region. NOTE: All regional contractors are reporting long call-wait times, so the online option may save time:

The new fees are $150 yearly for an individual or $300 yearly for a family. The fee will be billed monthly at $12.50/month for individual and $25/month for family coverage. This fee does not apply to other TRICARE plans or beneficiaries, including those using TRICARE For Life.

Individuals who don’t set up a payment plan and make at least one monthly payment by Dec. 31 will be disenrolled from TRICARE Select as of Jan. 1. These beneficiaries will have 180 days to request reinstatement by contacting their regional contractor.

The fees were part of the FY 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and came about during a debate where higher fees and beneficiary cost shares were proposed, including enrollment fees of up to $900 and an annual TRICARE For Life enrollment fee of up to $632. MOAA fought those extreme increases at the time and has continued to fight similar proposals
