We've all heard all about the importance of networking, but what does this really mean? How can we optimize our approach? The real secret to networking is building and sustaining relationships. What makes someone a powerful networker isn't the sheer number of contacts but rather the depth and quality of those relationships. MOAA has several upcoming events designed to provide you with the proper tools to become a better networker and then to put those skills to the test with an exciting opportunity to expand your network.

First, to hone your skills, join MOAA's career transition team and special guest Nanette (Mueller) Brédé, CEO and director for PrepConnect 360, for a one-hour webinar discussion, “Networking Your Way to Success,” Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. EDT. Here you will learn more about how to “work” a networking event and career fair, including how to:

  • introduce yourself to employers with your 30-second commercial,
  • talk to hiring managers about what you have learned in your research about their company and explain why you want to work there, and
  • develop a better understanding of the company's needs and concerns and how you can help the company make or save money.

Then, don't miss a unique chance to grow your network by attending MOAA's fourth annual Military and Veteran Networking Forum Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. At this MOAA signature event, you will have the opportunity to meet with senior executives, industry professionals, hiring managers, and resource specialists from top military-friendly employers.
