By sea: cruises, yachts, Catalina Island ferry

 

Many major cruise lines offer deals and special rates to active duty and retired military members. Celebrating a birthday before Dec. 31? Through the end of 2017, Catalina Express offers free ferry rides to Catalina Island, located 22 miles off the coast of Southern California. By air: airline deals and flight accessories

Hate airport crowds and TSA lines? Take Amtrak instead. Active duty U.S. military personnel and their spouses and dependents are eligible for a 10-percent rail fare military discount.
