Cmdr. Erin Cardinal, USN (Ret)

Cmdr. Erin Cardinal, USN (Ret), joined MOAA in 2021. She is a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) and has extensive experience in coaching servicemembers through their transition from active duty to the civilian sector. She brings a wealth of knowledge and best practices from her former corporate role at a global consulting firm, where she managed a development program for executives assuming new leadership positions and initiated various leader forums to cultivate stronger relationships, increase collaboration and foster more transparency.


Cardinal retired from the Navy with combined active and reserve service. She is dual qualified in Surface and Information Warfare. Duty assignments included Sasebo, Japan; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Stuttgart, Germany; and Washington, D.C. She made two deployments, the first to Yemen while on active duty and the second as a reservist to Kuwait and Iraq. Most of her Reserve time was spent serving in the Defense Attaché System with annual training in Paris and Pretoria, South Africa.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University, and a Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate from Georgetown University.

Cardinal grew up in Michigan and spent her formative years in Paris. She is married to her entrepreneurial husband. They have two cats and a dog they love to walk along the Mount Vernon Trail and across Old Town Alexandria.
