Mission

The mission of the MOAA Chapter is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership in the MOAA Chapter is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses.

Chapter Activities

The MOAA Chapter holds 10 monthly meetings per year featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to the members. (The Chapter does not meet in July and August.) The chapter sponsors the JROTC Leadership medals for the Kofa HS and Yuma HS JROTC programs. The chapter assisted in establishing the MCJROTC program at KOFA HS which began in August 2012 and currently sponsors Cadet of the Quarter awards for the program. The chapter provides lap quilts to veterans in nursing homes during the holiday season. The chapter has suspended the Young American Award which recognized 7th grade students who demonstrated academic excellence, patriotism and leadership but still sponsors an annual $1,000 scholarship for one graduating high school senior from this program. In 2026 we will begin to transition to awarding this scholarship to one of the Yuma JROTC graduating seniors.

Legislative Issues

The MOAA Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and we annually invite our Congressional Representative and Senators to speak to the chapter. The chapter is also active in supporting the state council in various state veterans' issues.

General Information

Yuma Chapter needs new members from the local community to keep our programs going. Join us at our next meeting. MOAA Chapter meetings rotate between lunch and dinner meetings held on the third Wednesday of each month. During the April meeting, the Chapter recognizes the Surviving Spouse members. The May meeting recognizes the Graduating Senior Scholarship winners. The December meeting is normally a fun holiday social event with music provided by local talented young musicians. The Chapter does not meet during July and August of the year.
