Mission

The Heart of America Chapter promotes the aims of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), as stated in the preamble to MOAA's Bylaws, including protecting the needs and benefits of military service and other objectives of MOAA.  The Chapter encourages and facilitates patriotism and camaraderie among its members and provides valuable services to protect the welfare and interests of its members, their dependents, and survivors.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership in the Heart of America Chapter is open to active duty, National Guard, Reserve, retired, and former commissioned officers and warrant officers of the following uniformed services: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as well as survivors of any deceased individuals who would, if living, be eligible for membership, upon completion of a membership application. Annual dues are waived for the first year.  For a Membership application, contact the Chapter President or Membership Secretary.

Chapter Activities

The chapter has a monthly luncheon with a guest speaker who addresses relevant topics of interest to the members. The chapter has two major fundraising activities during the year.  A Scholarship program grants three scholarships to high school seniors nominated by the school ROTC instructors.  The Chapter also has a Family Assistance fund that provides Christmas holiday funds to needy enlisted military families.  The Chapter has supported the Fisher House of Kansas City and periodic visits with patients in the Kansas City Veterans Hospital.

Legislative Issues

General Information

Chapter leadership is vested in the six elected officers that comprise the Chapter’s Executive Board: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Membership Secretary, and Treasurer.  The Executive Board meets every other month just before the Chapter luncheon.  Nominations are held in October, and elections in November. The luncheons are hosted at the Kansas City Disabled American Veterans building, 14605 E US Hwy 40, Kansas City, MO 64136.  The luncheons and speakers are announced in the monthly Chapter Newsletter and are usually on the fourth Saturday of most months, except for the June picnic and December Holiday Party.
