From the Expert: You may be nearing the end of your time in uniform and afraid you won’t find meaningful work in the civilian sector. Or, you may have made the transition and find yourself still searching for a fulfilling role -- that doesn't mean you'll never find one, or that you've made a mistake.

In fact, finding your dream job is only a matter of mindset, self-reflection, and a killer networking strategy.

Here are a few tips to help you get back on track, pivot to a new opportunity, or accelerate your journey to fulfillment in your dream position:

  • Start with a “clean” mind: Journal your hopes, dreams, and fears. Identify facts and remove the rest – what is left? What is the narrative you are ascribing to when it comes to your situation?

  • Conduct a self-assessment: Identify your non-negotiables. Where do you want to live? What type of work environment do you prefer?

  • Ignite your network: Once you have a clear understanding of what you want to do, craft a compelling social media post to attract attention. Share your story so members of your personal and professional networks can help!
