Bob McDonald, a former West Point graduate and CEO of Proctor & Gamble, was nominated by President Obama to be the next Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
McDonald, along with current acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson will be tasked with reforming the VA in the wake of a major health care scandal.
MOAA believes McDonald, who has been widely recognized for developing and inspiring leaders, needs to address a culture that sometimes places management’s interest over the needs of veterans.
“The road ahead will be fraught with considerable challenges and opportunities” said MOAA President Vice Adm. Norb Ryan, USN (Ret). “Our nation’s veterans deserve prompt and caring service in VA hospitals and clinics for all they have sacrificed for the rest of the nation. It is incumbent on our political process to move swiftly to put the new team leaders of the VA in place.”
MOAA hopes the Senate will promptly address Mr. McDonald’s nomination as the next secretary of Veterans Affairs. If after vetting he is confirmed, we pledge our full support to him and his team to carry out the necessary reforms to provide the quality care our veterans have earned.
