Jonathan Corrado, a 2005 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, began his Navy career on active duty in nuclear propulsion and shipboard operations, where he qualified as a nuclear engineering officer and surface warfare officer. He then transitioned to the Reserve and served in units spanning amphibious operations, the Seabees, the Joint Staff, the Office of Naval Intelligence, and a mobilization to a combined Navy-Marine Corps staff during the height of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Along the way, he also qualified as a Seabee combat warfare officer. Corrado is currently the chief of staff for Navy Reserve Submarine Group Two in Columbus, Ohio.
A Career Calling
“I was raised in a patriotic home, and my father is an Army veteran,” Corrado said. “As a third-generation Italian American, I grew up hearing stories about my ancestors immigrating to the U.S. and embracing the opportunities and freedoms this country offers. Service felt like a way to give back to a nation that gave my family — and me — so much.”
People-Focused
“I have been honored to serve as the commanding officer of three different units during my Reserve career. Those command opportunities reinforced for me that leadership is fundamentally about people — earning trust, developing others, and accepting responsibility when it matters most.”
Scope of Opportunity
“Many people underestimate how diverse and professionally enriching Reserve service can be. Throughout my career, my service has strengthened me both academically and operationally, giving me hands-on experience in boots-on-ground and shipboard nuclear operations. I’ve also had the privilege of excelling in a civilian career, earning a doctorate, and contributing in meaningful ways beyond uniformed service.”
