As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday on July 4, it is a fitting moment to reflect on what has sustained this nation since its founding. For two-and-a-half centuries, the U.S. has succeeded because generations of Americans have remained committed to our freedom and to a service greater than themselves.
Our country has been protected by the men and women who have worn the uniform of this nation — and by the families who have served alongside them. Their sacrifices, often made quietly, have helped preserve the freedoms Americans sometimes take for granted.
For nearly a century, MOAA has worked to honor that service. Now in its 97th year, MOAA was founded on the belief that those who serve our nation — and the families who support them — deserve not only our gratitude, but our lasting commitment. That mission continues today through our work to protect the earned pay, benefits, and health care of servicemembers, veterans, retirees, survivors, and service families.

MOAA is also proud to serve as a supporting partner for the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission’s America250 celebration, joining other organizations in providing outreach and engagement and helping Americans reflect on the meaning of this anniversary. We have helped highlight not only our nation’s history but also the individuals whose service has made that history possible.
I salute all our MOAA members who continue to serve. Across the country, you remain engaged in your communities, support charitable causes, mentor future leaders, and advocate for the next generation of servicemembers and their families.
Your service has helped sustain this democratic experiment for 250 years, and your example continues to strengthen it for the future. Happy birthday, America!
