A PCS move often means juggling household goods shipments, travel arrangements, housing, school transitions, and countless administrative tasks — all while trying to settle into a new community. On July 29, representatives from MOAA and other military and veterans organizations attended a defense briefing on the new PCS platform, which includes a website and 24/7 call center designed to serve as a one-stop resource for military movers.

In response to concerns about quality, accountability, and the overall moving experience –concerns that led to the 2025 cancellation of its single-source moving contract – the Pentagon created a dedicated task force at the beginning of this year. As outlined on its website, the Personal Property Activity (PPA) “oversees all aspects of the moving and storage process, providing service members, civilians, and their families with the policy, resources, and support needed for a successful relocation.”

The newly launched website and call center is intended to simplify one of the most stressful aspects of military life by providing centralized information, real-time assistance, and connections to the agencies responsible for supporting servicemembers and their families throughout the relocation process.

The website offers a centralized location for military members and their families to access resources such as moving entitlements and benefits, the Defense Personal Property System (DPS), printable checklists and guides, as well as personal vehicle shipment guidance.

During the height of the PCS season (May 15-Sept. 15) the call center operates 24 hours a day to provide worldwide support. Located at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., the center is staffed by servicemembers who have experienced PCS moves themselves, offering callers practical guidance from individuals who understand the unique challenges of military relocations.

Military families can contact the call center by dialing 833-MIL-MOVE.

Making a Difference

Another priority for the task force is gathering feedback to improve future moves. Officials emphasized that the post-PCS survey is one of the most important tools available to evaluate the performance of moving companies and travel management offices. Servicemembers are encouraged to complete the survey after every move, providing data that helps identify recurring issues and drive improvements across the enterprise.

MOAA has long championed efforts to ease the family stressors associated with military moves. A MOAA-supported passage in the FY 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) requires a Pentagon report designed to help ensure accurate accounting of unreimbursed PCS expenses are considered and analyzed for future PCS cycles.

For MOAA members, the new website and call center represent an encouraging effort to improve one of the most persistent challenges facing military families. While no single resource can eliminate the complexities of a PCS, having a centralized hub staffed by experienced personnel could help reduce confusion, improve communication, and connect families with the assistance they need before, during, and after a move.
