Tall ships? Schooners? World War II-themed voyages?
These cruises aren’t your typical sailings — and they include military discounts.
The Victory Chimes — America’s largest passenger schooner — is a National Historic Landmark. Guests help sail the ship during the day, exploring the Maine Coast, islands, and fishing villages. Regular prices for a three- to six-day cruise range from $600 to $935, including meals, activities, and accommodations. Active duty military members and their families get a 25-percent discount (so the military price is $450 to $700). Just tell the captain/reservationist at the time of booking. Star Clippers recreates the traditions and romance of tall sailing ships but with the modern comforts and amenities of a private yacht, with thoughtfully planned itineraries, first-class accommodations, and the chance to explore intimate ports of call. Veterans and military personnel (and their families) get 10 percent off any 2017 sailing to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, or the Far East (and you can combine the discount with existing offers for extra savings). Cunard, in partnership with The Greatest GENERATIONS Foundation, honors World War II veterans with a unique Aug. 4-12, 2017, transatlantic crossing onboard the luxury liner Queen Mary 2. Passengers will meet and interact with World War II heroes for a glimpse into the human elements of wartime service. Lectures, roundtables, and Q&As with veterans will cover topics such as the Battle of the Atlantic, Pearl Harbor, and D-Day. “Cunard played a pivotal role in World War II, with our liners Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth converted to troop ships. Together they carried over 1.5 million servicemen across the Atlantic, to and from the field of battle,” said Josh Leibowitz, senior vice president, Cunard North America. Fares for the eight-night voyage start at $1,071. Active duty, retired, and disabled military personnel get a discountof $100 per stateroom.
