From upscale resorts to wilderness camps, the Rocky Mountains offers something for every military member, especially those injured in the line of duty.
Located in the mountain town of Crested Butte, the Adaptive Sports Center’s Operation Rise and Conquer program offers adventure activities and ski lessons for $35 a day to active duty servicemembers, veterans with disabilities and their families, and servicemembers who have a family member or child with a disability. The program also sponsors weeklong outdoor adventure programs in the Colorado Rockies for disabled veterans and active duty service members, with all activities, programs, equipment, and transportation included. The Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center’s Heroic Military program offers mountain retreats, river trips, and wilderness and ski adventure camps — all free to active duty servicemembers and veterans injured in the line of duty. Many program offerings also welcome family members to participate. Lodging, meals, equipment, lift tickets, and private instruction are included. Vail Resorts offers a special Military Epic Pass starting at $149 for active duty and retired military members (regular price is $949), with a discounted rate for families. The pass includes unlimited, unrestricted access to the company’s 18 resorts for the 2018-19 ski season, including Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and Keystone in Colorado.
