Renewal Process
This is not the application process for new applicants. For information on how to apply to our program, please click here.
The renewal process starts Jan. 1 and closes March 1 every year. An email will be sent to students in early January detailing the renewal process and required documentation.
If you are a current loan or scholarship recipient and you do not receive an email from us about the renewal process by the end of January, please reach out to us by emailing edassist@moaa.org or by calling 1-800-234-6622, prior to the renewal deadline, to receive next step instructions. The renewal process must be completed by March 1, 2023. Our team works diligently to contact every student who is eligible for renewal, but we understand certain spam filters and email settings impact email delivery.
Failure to renew will result in the student being removed from the program and placed into repayment status.
Disbursement Information
The loan is given in two disbursements each year -- one in early August and the second in early-December. The money is electronically deposited into a bank account of your choice. If your bank account information has changed, please download the Deposit Authorization Form here. If you have misplaced the form, you can download the form by clicking on the link above. (To download the form, you must either have or install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.)
The total amount of the loan for the 2019-2020 school year is $7,000.
Grade-Point Average (GPA) Requirements
Students must remain in good standing with their university in order to stay in the program. For most academic institutions, good standing is a 2.0 GPA or above. A 3.0 GPA is required to apply, but it is not required to maintain a loan unless the school considers probation to be less than a 3.0 GPA.
Grants
There are two types of grants students can receive while in the program:
Senior Grants. Students who have been in our program for at least one year receiving interest-free loans and who will be rising Seniors for the school year of the renewal period are invited to compete for one of our Senior Grants. Along with the online renewal reminder, juniors will be emailed an invitation to complete a Senior Grant online application in January. The Senior Grant will replace the interest-free loan for the student’s senior year. If a student receives a Senior Grant, they will not be eligible for further Educational Assistance benefits. Those who apply but are not selected for a Senior Grant are eligible for the interest-free loan, provided they follow and complete the renewal process.
Designated Scholarships are awarded in July of each year. Students are automatically considered and notified if selected. MOAA does not send a notice if a student is not selected. A student receives this in conjunction with the loan. The award is a $6,500 interest-free loan and a $500 grant, which takes the place of the $7,000 interest free loan. Students selected are responsible for writing their donors and thanking them for the award. Specific donor contact information can be found by e-mailing edassist@moaa.org.
Leave of Absence
If a student leaves school for any amount of time or for any reason, that student must contact MOAA by calling (800) 234-6622, or by e-mailing edassist@moaa.org to discuss his or her loan status.
Repaying your MOAA Student Loan
Effective December 1, 2022, the servicing of MOAA Scholarship Fund's interest free loan program will be through ZuntaFi (NMLS ID# 1359207).
ZuntaFi will perform all servicing activities for loan and will be the primary contact for repayment information. Servicing includes establishing recurring payments, processing deferral requests, address and other contact updates, changes to banking information, etc.
To create a ZuntaFi account to make a payment, check current loan balance, and other loan related inquiries, students can visit www.zuntafi.com or call them at 800-592-1270.
This transfer does not affect the terms and conditions of loan(s). Your rights and responsibilities, as defined in your original Application/Promissory Note, will remain the same. The application, renewal, and senior grant processes will remain with the MOAA Educational Assistance program (charities.moaa.org/sfloans).
If you have any questions, please email the MOAA Scholarship Fund team at edassist@moaa.org.
