Capt. Mary Gustafson, USPHS (Ret), served in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service for 23 years, holding positions at the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration. Following her uniformed service, she pursued a career in the biopharmaceutical industry and retired in 2022. She is the surviving spouse of Cmdr. W. Patrick Monaghan, who served in the U.S. Navy for 28 years.

A national MOAA/TROA member since 1988, Mary has been active with the Nassau County Florida Chapter since 2021 and has served as its Surviving Spouse Liaison since 2023. In this role, she works directly with surviving spouses and families while supporting chapter activities and outreach.

Mary is also a member of MOAA’s Surviving Spouse Virtual Chapter. In recognition of her leadership, she received a Florida Council of Chapters Leadership Award in 2024. Her chapter involvement and work as a liaison reflect her continued commitment to serving military families and the surviving spouse community.
