Andrew Byers

Andrew Byers

Andrew Byers is a native of Southern California and enlisted in the active duty Marine Corps in January 2009. He served as an infantryman with deployments to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and with the 13th and 31st Marine Expeditionary Units before departing service in 2017. He is the spouse of Warrant Officer Kelly Byers, an active duty visual information officer with the Marine Corps.

He has worked both unofficially and officially in policy analysis and directives management for the Marine Corps at the echelon one level. He is a firm advocate for the importance of policy to lead culture and shape it intelligently and deliberately.

Having spent nearly a decade focused on policy and directives, the latter’s life-cycle and the former’s interconnectedness, he believes policy through directives is the single most powerful and effective tool in the inventory for service chiefs and department secretaries, if it is utilized and written properly.
