Mission

The mission of MOAA Pittsburgh Chapter is to be your wardroom in Pittsburgh: To promote the aims of the Military Officers Association of America; provide community service; encourage and facilitate camaraderie among retired, active, and former officers of the uniformed services; and provide useful services for, and support the rights and interests of members, and their dependents and survivors. WE CANNOT CHANGE THE INFORMATION IN THE GREYED OUT AREA ABOVE ON THIS PAGE to reflect 2024 meeting dates.

Read through all the chapter blocks below for up-to-date information. Lunchs are ~ $30 (sbject to change), cash bar. Reach out to Pat Seda-Rivera, julio.moaa@comcast.net to make a reservation by at least the Tueday before a luncheon date. We'll do our best to accommodate late reservations.

We are always looking for new members to join our wardroom in Pittsburgh.

Chapter Activities

MOAA Pittsburgh Chapter meetings feature guest speakers on a variety of topics of interest to members. The theme for 2021 was China: Strategic Choices and Capabilities; 2022 featured the editor of Proceedings, the naval affairs magazine, a bagpiper who demonstrated how bagpipes were - and are - used as a military device in place of bugles, the commanding officer of the USS BOXER (LHD-4) who talked about the Captain Phillips rescue off Somalia, and other interesting topics.

2024 speakers are still being assigned: 14 April is a installation of new officers and a presentation by Nick Taylor, chairman of the PA Veterans Commission and president of the PA Council of Chapters, who will talk about veterans services offered by the state and the Council of Chapters, and give a MOAA update. Our May and September speakers are still being planned. The December meeting is a special Christmas party on 08 December.

DISREGARD THE DATES IN THE GREY AREA; we cannot change information in the greyed-out blocks, These are the correct meeting dates for 2024: 14 April, 02 April, 08 September, and our Christmas Party on 10 December. All luncheon meetings start with a social hour at 1300, meal at 1400, and speaker at about 1500.

As volunteers step forward to help plan and execute chapter events, we are expanding our activities to include Saturday breakfasts and hope to add end-of the-workday gatherings such as our successful JO happy hour and a baseball game at PNC Park.

The chapter supports 15 JROTC programs and 3 Army/Navy/Air Force ROTC programs. We have supported the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc., the Southwest PA  & Erie Veterans Homes, as well as the Allegheny County Veterans Court.

Legislative Issues

MOAA Pittsburgh Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda. The 2024 priorities include TRICARE for Life, military housing, and the Major Richard Star Act.

Our current chapter president is the immediate past president of the MOAA PA Council of Chapters. The chapter is an active member of the Council.

Our local congressman, Chris Deluzio, Navy, is a member of our chapter. Another member is past congressman Conor Lamb, Marines. One of our local state representatives, Rob Mercuri, Army, is also a chapter member.
