Chapter Activities

MOAA Pittsburgh Chapter meetings feature guest speakers on a variety of topics of interest to members. The theme for last year was China: Strategic Choices and Capabilities. 2022 speakers are still being assigned for the 15 August, and 10 October luncheons. The December meeting is a special Christmas party on 05 December. DISREGARD THE DATES IN THE GREY AREA ABOVE IF THEY DIFFER; we cannot change information in the greyed-out blocks, These are the correct meeting dates for 2022: 10 April, 12 June, 14 August, 09 October, and our Christmas Party on 11 December. All meetings start with a social hour at 1300, meal at 1400, and speaker at about 1500.

The 10 April luncheon is a business meeting with a visit from MOAA National Program Director, Council and Chapter Affairs, Frank Michael, CAPT USN (ret). In June we will host Ed Blank, former TV/radio/film editor with the Pittsburgh Press who will tell us behind-the-scenes stories and anecdotes about the many dozens of movie and TV stars he has interviewed over his decades as a reporter.

In addition, when COVID restrictions are lifted we will resume scheduling additional activities: Hosting bingo at SWPA Veterans Home, hosting a picnic at the John Heinz VA Center, Pittsburgh Pirates or Washington Wild Things baseball games, chapter picnics, a Gateway Clipper river excursion, and weekend bus trips for members and their extended families.

The chapter supports 15 JROTC programs and 3 Army/Navy/Air Force ROTC programs. We have supported the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc. as well as the Allegheny County Veterans Court.

Legislative Issues

MOAA Pittsburgh Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda: Military pay raise 4.6%, the Richard Star Act, the Stop Copay Overpay Act. Our chapter president is the current MOAA PA Council of Chapters president. The chapter is an active member of the Pennsylvania Council of Chapters. Our local congressman, Conor Lamb, a Marine, is a member of our chapter. One of our local state representatives, Rob Mercuri, Army Afghanistan vet, is also a chapter member.
