Hurricane Harvey: How You Can Help

Hurricane Harvey: How You Can Help
About the Author

Lt. Gen. Dana T. Atkins, USAF (Ret) is the President and CEO of the Military Officers Association of America.

Fellow MOAA Members,

With the tragic events in Texas and Louisiana, I want to reassure all MOAA members that the welfare and safety of our fellow citizens most directly impacted by the storm and subsequent large-scale flooding are uppermost in our minds.

Your MOAA board of directors, headquarters team, and council and chapter leadership know this is a difficult time for many of our members.  Accordingly, we have reached out to our local chapters and state councils most directly affected by the storm to determine if there are any immediate needs for assistance.

We salute the first responders, civilian volunteers, and hundreds of active duty, National Guard, and Reserve personnel who are in harm's way meeting the immediate needs of our fellow citizens.

For those of you who prefer to take immediate action to support the rescue and recovery effort, we recommend Guidestar and Charity Navigator as resources to guide you in your donation decisions. For a summary of Hurricane Harvey assistance resources, refer to the FEMA website  or the VA's Disaster Assistance for Veterans brochure.

Please keep us posted on any efforts you or your chapters are making to offer help in the hurricane's aftermath.  We will share pictures and stories about what you are doing with the entire MOAA community.

Thanks for your loyalty and support.
