More than 170 commissaries will hold sidewalk sales in May, offering additional savings on everyday items.

Find the full list of sale dates on the Defense Commissaries Agency (DeCA) website. Dates are subject to change and run throughout the month: A handful of locations will run sales the first week of May, while some sales will take place during part or all of Memorial Day weekend (May 26-29).

Hours and sale items also vary by location, though most sales feature household items in bulk. Find the store nearest you, as well as contact information and store hours, at this link, or check out DeCA's Store Locator, which includes links to weekly sales flyers.

Commissaries generally hold similar sales in August or September. As with the May sales, dates and hours vary by location.

Expanded Eligibility

DeCA and other federal agencies continue outreach efforts to veterans and caregivers covered by a 2020 commissary eligibility expansion opening the stores to more than 4.1 million potential new shoppers. These include designated primary caregivers (under VA's Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers), all Purple Heart recipients and former prisoners of war, and all veterans with VA-documented service-connected disabilities.

A VA News item from October 2022 includes links to help determine eligibility and details on other commissary benefits, including curbside pickup options. Get full eligibility details at this link.
