The VA added individual tribute pages for nearly 500,000 veterans to its Veterans Legacy Memorial site this month, joining the nearly 4 million fallen servicemembers already represented at the online memorial.

The addition includes those interred at 93 state, territorial, and tribal veterans cemeteries, according to a VA press release. The memorial site, which launched in 2019, allows visitors to “find a veteran” using a search box by entering the veteran’s first and last name, or an advanced search option using middle name and service branch.

Each page publicly displays available information gathered from VA records, including service branch with logo, dates of birth and death, rank, war period, highest decoration, emblem of belief, and grave location.

Once on a veteran’s page, visitors can leave a “tribute” in one of three ways: as a direct entry on the page, as a reply to someone else’s tribute, or as a file upload – this could include photos of the veteran or historical documents such as newspaper clippings, citations, or letters.

Documents with visible personally identifiable information (addresses, Social Security numbers, and similar details) will not be posted. Tributes are reviewed by moderators and generally post to the page, if approved, within two business days.

More than 22,000 submissions have been made to the memorial since its launch, per the press release. Learn more about using the site and posting tributes at this VA blog post.
