Committal services resumed June 9 at all but two VA national cemeteries for the first time in 10 weeks, the department announced in a recent news release.  

Military funeral honors also will be made available based on local availability, according to the release. Committal services will not be available at Calverton and Long Island national cemeteries, both on Long Island, N.Y., until June 22.

For other locations, all interments scheduled for June 9 and beyond will include the option of a committal service and, if available, military funeral honors. Ceremonies will be subject to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on COVID-19 spread, as well as state and local guidance that could limit the number of attendees. Families may still opt for a later memorial service, after restrictions are lifted.

In July, cemetery officials will reach out to families of those interred from March 23 to June 8 to schedule memorial services, per the release.
