Resources and Support for Guard and Reserve

From reserve-specific advocacy efforts and health care programs to publications and information, MOAA works to support members of the Guard and Reserve.

Legislation: MOAA's Government Relations team is working with Congress to close loopholes regarding GI bill credit for reservists on medical hold and applying GI bill eligibility, retirement credit, and medical benefits to reservists called up on 12304b orders.

Health care: MOAA fought successfully for TRICARE coverage for drilling and gray-area reserve retirees under the TRICARE Reserve Select and TRICARE Retired Reserve programs. Our sponsored insurance supplements under MEDIPLUS® work with both programs.

Family support: Family-specific publications like Family Matters: A Personal Inventory for Peace of Mind, are available to Life and Premium members for download at www.moaa.org/publications or by calling MOAA's Member Service Center at (800) 234-MOAA (6622).

MOAA's legislative team has won additional funding for family-support programs and the inclusion of families in Yellow Ribbon reintegration initiatives. See MOAA's Military Family Legislative Action Guide at www.moaa.org/legisactionguide.

Spouses can learn more about current issues that affect them and their families at www.moaa.org/blogs (use the category dropdowns and select “Military Family Affairs”) and by subscribing to MOAA's e-newsletters at www.moaa.org/email.

Transition Center: Paid members and their spouses can received career-transition assistance from MOAA experts. In addition, career-transition presentations are offered nationwide to currently serving guardmembers and reservists from all services and ranks, and to their families, highlighting self-marketing strategies, résumé and LinkedIn profile development, interview preparation, and salary negotiation. MOAA's experts also address health care benefits and Survivor Benefit Plan options, as well as strategies for managing the transition to the new blended military retirement plan.
