The VA will roll out nationwide walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations for eligible veterans, spouses, caregivers, and others, according to a May 10 press release.

All of those eligible to receive the vaccine through the VA will be eligible for a walk-in shot. This includes all veterans (not just those receiving VA care or benefits), as well as spouses, caregivers enrolled in certain VA or other programs, and those receiving benefits under Civilian Health and Medical Programs of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA). More details on eligibility are available at this link.

Previous VA messaging instructed those eligible for the vaccine to register online, although some VA facilities have made the shots available to walk-in patients via established clinics or special vaccination events.

More than 2.7 million people have received the vaccine through the VA. Those interested in a walk-in appointment are advised to check with their local facility on hours and availability; you can find your facility via VA’s online directory.

Walk-in appointments also are available to TRICARE recipients at some military treatment facilities (MTFs) and other locations; visit TRICARE.mil/VaccineAppointments for details. You may also be able to find a more convenient location for the free vaccine near you via Vaccines.gov or via your local pharmacy.
