There's one resource every entrepreneur has the same amount of - time.

While entrepreneurs may differ in the amount of money they have to invest in their company and the number of employees they have to staff their business, they all have the same number of hours in a day.

In many ways, time is the great entrepreneurial equalizer. We all have the same amount of time, but we don't all spend it the same way. Identifying ways to maximize efforts through time management can be a good way for entrepreneurs to help take their business to the next level.

Here are four time management tips for military spouse entrepreneurs:

1. Invest in a Time Audit. Entrepreneurs interested in maximizing their time should consider conducting a time audit to identify how they spend their time. A time audit involves tracking how you spend your time over the course of a few days.

To conduct a time audit, record how you spend your time during a workday in a notebook or Excel chart, or you can download an app like RescueTime to track your time expenditure.

After you've tracked your time over a period of days, review how much time you invested in work-related tasks versus other activities, and be sure to distinguish between income-generating activities and uncompensated operational tasks. Make notes of any potential time wasters, like mindless scrolling on social media, and strive to eliminate or outsource these activities if possible. After you recognize how you spend your time, you can develop an effective strategy for reclaiming it.

2. Stick to a Schedule. We live in an age where seemingly everything is competing for our time - intrusive internet ads, media outlets, endless e-newsletters, etc. Sticking to a schedule can help busy entrepreneurs focus their energies on business priorities and not get lost in all the noise that so often accompanies our 21st-century lives.

Breaking each day down into small time chunks can be a great way for entrepreneurs to stay on task and maximize productivity. When I started my business, I found it helpful to schedule my days in hourly intervals, with 45-minute work bursts followed by 15-minute breaks. I used Google Calendar to organize my workday and found its mobile app features to be incredibly useful when traveling or away from my desk. Having a schedule, and sticking to it, can help entrepreneurs stay on task and productive.

3. Eliminate Distractions. This can help entrepreneurs focus their attention on work-related projects and meet deadlines.

Revisit the results from your time audit and review all noted time wasters and make a list of repeat distractions. If responding to personal text messages while working is a routine distraction, consider turning off your personal phone during work hours. If new posts on your Facebook feed keep derailing your progress, download an app like Anti-Social or a browser extension like StayFocused that restricts social media access during work hours.

Another strategy for eliminating distractions is improving your focus before starting the workday. Engaging in activities like mindfulness or yoga can be a great way to settle your mind and prepare for a productive workday.

4. Utilize Time Management Tools. Improve your productivity and discipline your limited time by structuring your workday with the help of time management tools. Many time management tools are available for a low to no-cost as digital downloads.
