The mission of the Star Fort MOAA Chapter is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.

Membership in the Star Fort MOAA Chapter is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. The Star Fort MOAA Chapter holds 6 Member Meetings featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to the members, Surviving Spouses hold 6 meetings per year and 6 Board Meetings a year. A special Memorial Day meeting is held each May. In addition the chapter supports 4 local JROTC programs and 1 ROTC program and the annual Veterans’ Day Parade. The chapter also places American Flags on the graves of Veterans for Memorial Day. We also support the “Toys For Tots” at our November, Christmas, Meeting and this year supported the Salvation Army with Clothing and food items at the meeting and completed one day of Bell Ringing! Surviving Spouse did special cards for veterans in assisted living facilities.

The Star Fort MOAA Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda on- line and through the newsletter. We send our newsletter to our State Representatives and Senators to keep them inform of our chapter meeting and activities. The chapter is also active in supporting the state council in various state veterans' issues by attending several state meetings, in person and on-line, where we are briefed on the Military Coalition that promotes military and veterans issues.

Star Fort MOAA Chapter meetings are dinner meetings held on the fourth Thursday of January, March, May, July and September beginning at 6:30 PM. The November meeting is the Thursday before Thanksgiving. Locations vary and are announced in the chapter newsletter and at chapter meetings. Star Fort MOAA Chapter Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of January, March, May and September and the last Tuesday in June and October beginning at 4:30 PM. and held at the lower level of the Greenwood Veterans Center. The surviving spouses group meets every February, April, June, October and December. Locations vary as well as programs. They are open to include any eligible surviving spouses.

The Star Fort MOAA Chapter was chartered in 1997 and serves the central western part of the South Carolina. Member Meetings are held Bi-monthly in various locations with Board Meetings held in the months between Member Meetings. The chapter publishes a monthly newsletter, Star Fort Patriot MOAA News. The chapter currently has 72 members made up of currently serving, former, and retired officers and their survivors.
