Some who will Storm the Hill with MOAA on April 10 are seasoned D.C. veterans, while others are first-time participants. Some will travel across the country, others from just up the road. And while lawmakers will hear from many advocates in person, even more will contribute from home.

So, why are you taking part? And why should others join up?

MOAA has outlined the policy positions and offered the logistics, but only you can share your personal motivations. We're collecting your messages via social media as a way to show the passion and commitment of our members - sharing yours via a simple Tweet or Facebook post could convince others to lend their voices. The larger the Storm, the better the results.

How? Just send a message via Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #MOAAStorms, or tag your Instagram photo the same way (and give MOAA a follow). Not the social sort? Email us your message with the subject line “Why I Storm” and MOAA will try to spread the word over its social channels during the Storming event.

Some examples from last year's Storming the Hill event to get you started:

McKinley Williams
“I storm to let the legislature know what causes we have to support for the military, knowing that they can't advocate for themselves.” -- Lt. Col. McKinley Williams, USA (Ret)

Desiray Tuinstra

“Meeting with Congressional members is my opportunity to say something. I can thank them for what they are currently doing, but definitely let them know we can always do better.” - Desiray Tuinstra, spouse of a currently serving airman

Juan Crockett

“Storming the Hill is an opportunity to educate, share and advocate for our servicemembers, veterans and survivors.” - Lt. Col. Juan Crockett, USA

Patrick DeForest

“I am proud to support all members of the uniformed services and speak for them when they aren't able to.” - Maj. Patrick DeForest, USA
