Spouses to Teachers (STT), a DoD program administered by the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), provides support to military spouses interested in teaching kindergarten through 12th grade students in public, private, charter, Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS), or at a high school or community college. The program provides a path toward a professional, transportable career for mobile military spouses.
The initiative, originally only offered in six states, is available in all 50 states, Europe, and the Pacific. Spouses of active duty and Selected Reserves servicemembers can receive up to $600 for state teacher licensure/certification.
The national STT office provides military spouses with information about credentialing requirements. Both the national and state STT offices maintain Web sites providing information regarding state licensure and reciprocity requirements, credentialing programs, employment opportunities, and other online resources.
Spouses seeking guidance on teacher certification should contact the representative in the Troops to Teachers/Spouses to Teachers State Office for registration, or visit the national STT Web site at www.spousestoteachers.com.
