Who is Eligible to Attend?
Officers, enlisted, active duty, former, and retired servicemembers and their spouses are eligible to attend the career fair. The employers who are participating are aware of your military service background , and they want to talk to you.

Why Attend?

1. You could land a job!

2. Employers want to meet you. Last year, almost 200 companies and organizations participated In the MOAA Career Fair. These employers want to meet and potentially interview servicemembers of all grades and their spouses. Be prepared to conduct on-the-spot interviews with the employers and tell them what skills, experience, and personal qualities you posses that will add value to their organizations.

3. You gain experience. The more employers you meet and interact with, the sharper your interviewing skills will become. Also, career fairs are helpful tools in boosting your confidence in communicating with employers in the civilian work force.

4. You could be interviewed. Employers are prepared to conduct on-the-spot interviews. It is unlikely the interviewers will make immediate hiring decisions, but they will pave the way for some for subsequent hiring interviews.

5. Your resume will be provided to many employers. If you attend, you will be asked to leave a copy of your resume at the registration table, which will become part of the resume CD that will be used by many employers. In addition, you should have plenty of extra copies of your resume to give to individual employers at their respective booths.

Recommended Attire and Other Tips
Employers are not as concerned about your dress in a career fair as they are in a formal job interview. However, the following are reasonable guidelines:

1. It is always appropriate to wear your uniform.

2. A civilian suit is fine, too. It should be cleaned and pressed as should a shirt or blouse. A conservative tie is recommended for men and conservative jewelry and makeup for women. Please do not wear corfam shoes -- men or women.

3. A blazer with slacks also is appropriate.

4. If you don't have a suit or blazer and don't want to wear your uniform, you should wear a clean, neatly pressed pair of trousers and shirt, or a skirt and blouse.

5. Brush your teeth, ensure your hair is neatly trimmed, and clean and trim your fingernails.

6. Some don'ts:

* Don't chew gum.
* Don't appear to be dirty.
* Don't wear jeans, t-shirts, or running shoes.
* Don't wear PT gear.

7. Worried about making a good first impression? See our "Tips for Success at Career Fairs" for additional guidance.
