Sue Hoppin, an Air Force spouse and Deputy Director for Spouse Outreach in MOAA’s Benefits Information Department, attended the Lifetime Channel’s hit show "Army Wives" red carpet screening with Our Nation's Heroes at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
Hoppin, along with members of MOAA President's Currently Serving Spouse Advisory Council including Nicole Alcorn, COO and co-founder of the Military Spouse and Family Legacy Association and Tanya Biank, author of the book Army Wives, joined cast members, actual Army Wives, and other honored guests on the red carpet. Special guests included Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen George W. Casey Jr., and Mrs. Casey and Lee Woodruff, wife of ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff, who joined Walter Reed military staff and wounded servicemembers for an advanced screening of a new episode of “Army Wives,” the number one cable drama among women.
"Each week, 'Army Wives' brings the dedication and service of the military family into the living rooms of millions of viewers who may not have considered otherwise the sacrifice of our military on behalf of all American families," Biank said. "That in itself is a tremendous achievement."
Lifetime television has supported MOAA’s Military Spouse Symposium for the last two years.
In May, Hoppin, Tanya Biank and other members of MOAA President's Currently Serving Spouse Advisory Council took a behind-the-scenes tour of the Lifetime network's hit TV show at the show’s set in Charleston, S.C. MOAA produced a short video of that visit that shows the spouses sharing their experiences as military wives with the show’s cast and producers, and an exclusive interview with Tanya Biank. The video is currently on MOAA’s website.
MOAA was recently noted among several organizations that support military families in a Lifetime news release.
“What a privilege to be able to share this special event with our nation’s heroes and their families, both as an Air Force spouse and as a staffer at MOAA, it’s gratifying to see the level of support that exits for our military families,” said Hoppin.
