Medal of Honor recipient Barney Barnum joins Patricia Peck and VADM Norb Ryan in accepting a check for $100,000 for the MOAA Scholarship Fund from proceeds at the Sixth Annual MOAA/Jeff Peck Memorial Golf Classic.

On May 12, 2009, the Sixth Annual MOAA/Jeff Peck Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser was held in Clifton, Va. More than 120 people, including corporate sponsors, invited guests, active duty and retired service members, MOAA staff, and wounded warriors from Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), Washington, D.C., took part in the day’s event. Christopher Lenertz, a student at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, thanked the sponsors on behalf of all recipients.

As a result of generous contributions by both sponsors and players, nearly $100,000 was raised for MOAA’s Scholarship Fund. This year, MOAA was pleased to show its support firsthand — twelve soldiers from WRAMC were able to join players on the golf course and enjoy the day. MOAA would like to thank the following individuals and organizations for their support in making this event happen:

Presenting sponsor — TriWest Healthcare Alliance
Platinum sponsor — Health Net Federal Services
Gold sponsors — The Hartford, Humana Military Healthcare Services, Marsh Affinity Group Services, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, United Concordia
Bronze sponsors — Crowne Plaza Hotel (Alexandria, Va.), U.S. Family Health Plan Alliance
Hole and Special Sponsors — Armed Forces Benefit Association, Bright Key, Competitive Edge Services, Col. Dick Crampton, USA-Ret., Vice Adm. Lou Crenshaw, USN-Ret., Grant Thornton, James G. Elliott Inc., National Association of Federal Credit Unions, Navy Mutual Aid Association, Tom Philpott, Sheraton National Hotel, SunTrust Bank, Target Marketing, TMA Resources, The Tuckerman Group/SSgA, Virginia Commerce Bank, USMA Association of Graduates, U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association

What an amazing show of support for a worthy cause. The Scholarship Fund will use the money raised to continue its work in providing grants and no-interest education loans to more than 1,600 children of military personnel pursuing an undergraduate education. Planning for next year’s event already is underway. Save the date for the seventh annual tournament to be held May 11, 2010.
