Director’s Notes: August Congressional Recess

Greetings all, and happy 4th of July! Many of our chapters do not meet during July and August and take a much-deserved summer break. Congress also takes a break in August, with members returning to their home districts for a brief respite and to reconnect with their constituents. Many chapters, often led by their legislative chair, schedule office visits with their legislators. During these visits, chapter members play a vital role in MOAA’s grassroots advocacy by helping us inform and educate our elected officials on key legislative issues facing our members. Read “Schedule Your Congressional Visits!” in this issue of The Affiliate and be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your legislators during the August recess.

In conjunction with scheduling visits to your legislators, please encourage your chapter members to sign up to receive MOAA’s Legislative Update and the monthly Council & Chapters Update e-newsletters. Visit www.moaa.org/email to subscribe. If you have trouble signing up, call (800) 234-MOAA (6622) and a member service representative will assist you.

Thank you all for your continued support!
