The mission of the Sumner County Chapter is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.

Membership in the Chapter is open to any current or former commissioned officers in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. The Chapter awards a $500 scholarship for a graduating senior at each of the four area high school JROTC units. The Chapter also presents a MOAA medal to a junior at each of the units. The Chapter's Veterans Assistance Program partners with other veteran organizations to assist local veterans with emergency funds. We also support the Sumner County Veterans Home and the Toys for Tots program.

 

The Chapter holds dinner meetings on the fourth Thursday of January, March, April, May, June, September and October. The Christmas meeting is usually on the first Sunday of December. Each meeting has a guest speaker that covers such topics as pending federal and state legislation, financial planning, healthcare, local activities and events.

The MOAA Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and we annually invite our federal and state representatives to speak to the chapter. The chapter is also active in supporting the state council in various state veterans' issues.

The Chapter publishes a newsletter containing legislative and benefit information, recent events, details of the upcoming meeting, and other pending activities.

The Sumner County Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is composed active, reserve, retired military officers, and surviving spouses. The Chapter serves members in the Sumner, Robertson, Macon and Trousdale counties.
