Mission

The mission of the East Central Alabama Chapter is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate for a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership in the East Central Alabama Chapter is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The surviving spouses of these individuals are encouraged to affiliate with the Chapter and participate as members. Chapter Activities

The East Central Alabama Chapter holds 10 meetings a year featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to the members. A special Christmas Dinner is held each December. In addition the chapter participates in 6 local JROTC programs at local high schools and 8 ROTC programs at Auburn University and Tuskegee University, cumulating in an annual Awards Dinner Banquet for the cadets. The chapter also actively supports the Mayor of Auburn’s Annual Memorial Day Breakfast and the annual National Veterans Day observance in the City of Auburn.

Legislative Issues

The East Central Alabama Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and annually our Congressional Representative and Senators are invited to speak to the chapter. The chapter is also active in supporting the Alabama Council of MOAA Chapters in various state veterans' issues.

General Information

The East Central Alabama Chapter dinner meetings are held on the third Tuesday in January, February, April, May, September, October, November and December at The Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Alabama. The March & August meetings are usually a brunch at a local venue. The dinner meetings begin at 6:00 pm with a social time, and adjourn usually by 8:00 pm. During the summer season of June & July we do not meet.

About Our Chapter

The East Central Alabama Chapter was chartered in 1970 and serves the cities of Auburn, Opelika, and the surrounding areas in Lee, Chambers, Russell, Tallapoosa, and Macon counties. Meetings are held monthly at The Saugahatchee Country Club, 3800 Bent Creek Road, Opelika, Alabama. The chapter publishes a monthly newsletter, The ECAC-MOAA Newsletter. The chapter currently has 86 members made up of currently serving, former, and retired officers as well 9 surviving spouses affiliated with the Chapter.
