Col Harris graduated from Principia College, Elsah, Ill., in 1966 and was commissioned at Air Force Officer Training School that same year. For the next 29 years, he served in a variety of positions as an aircraft maintenance officer, personnel officer, executive officer, and public affairs officer. His 20 years in public affairs includes jobs as: chief of public affairs at fighter wings in New Mexico and Korea; director of Public Affairs at Lackland AFB and Air Training Command in Texas; and chief of Air Force Media Relations and deputy director of Air Force Public Affairs in the Pentagon.
His last job before retiring in January 1996 was deputy director of American Forces Information Service in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs). From 1978-1980, Col Harris served the President of the United States as a White House Military Social Aide.
Col Harris holds Masters degrees in Business from Eastern New Mexico University and in Public Relations from American University in Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and the Air War College and is nationally accredited by the Public Relations Society of America. He has worked at MOAA since March 1996.
