Here are a few story ideas that MOAA can help you develop:

  1. HOT ISSUE: MOAA Government Relations works numerous issues affecting military people, such as pay, allowances, health care, pharmacy, and TRICARE (the military's health care program). Each has relevance to active duty and military retiree groups, depending upon the issues before Congress.

  2. National Guard and Reserve forces are being stretched thin by continuous deployments. MOAA is a strong advocate of increasing the active force numbers to meet the missions required of our military around the world. MOAA has worked to get the Guard and Reserve increased health care and benefits.

  3. MOAA’s Transition Services Department provides assistance to military officers leaving the service or are in transition between jobs after getting out. Their services include resume critiques, transition presentations, one-on-one counseling, and a job board where over 5000 companies advertise employment opportunities. In addition, MOAA has a State Networking Program with over 3000 members willing to assist fellow members in transition in their state. These services are free and are available to all members and their spouses. MOAA experts can talk with you about the career transition process, what the trends are, how the officers react, how the families react, what the employers say about hiring military people, and many other aspects of the operation.

MOAA also conducts the premier military focused career fair in the Washington D.C. area in the spring and fall and will soon conduct its first virtual career fair that will provide transition services to all military members worldwide.
