USS Yorktown at Midway: The Sinking of the USS Yorktown (CV-5) and the Battles of the Coral Sea and Midway. By Capt. Stanford E. Linzey, USN-Ret.
In the epic battle of Midway, USS Yorktown (CV-5), the only ship to come under fire, received three bomb hits and two torpedoes, taking a 27-degree list to port. Eighty-six men died and many were wounded. Captain Buckmaster ordered, “Abandon ship.” The crew slid down the lines into the murky, oily waters of the Pacific Ocean to be plucked out of the sea by destroyers. This is a biographical and historical account of a young sailor’s life and love in the Navy in World War II. Linzey is a survivor of the greatest Naval battle ever fought and won by the numerically smaller forces of the U.S. Navy.

The Enola Gay and the Smithsonian Institution. By Lt. Col. Charles T. O’Reilly and William A. Rooney.
On August 6, 1945, the B-29 Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, which ushered on the end of World War II. For the 50th anniversary of this major event in world history, the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution produced an exhibit. A controversy erupted, however, over the exhibit’s historical authenticity. Veterans, for example, complained that the museum displayed a misrepresented version of history. This study focuses on the controversy, covering issues such as casualty figures, ethical questions, and political correctness, among others.
