TRICARE Reserve Select Fact Sheet

TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) is a congressionally authorized premium-based health coverage plan for Guard members, reservists, and their families.

Update: Expanded TRICARE Reserve Select Begins Oct. 1
Effective on or after Oct. 1, 2007, all qualified Selected Reserve members who are not enrolled in or eligible to enroll in the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan (FEHBP) may purchase TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) health care coverage at 28 percent of the total premium cost.

To purchase, download the new TRS request form (DD Form 2896-1) at the TRS site. Sign the document certifying you are not eligible or enrolled in FEHBP and mail or fax it to your TRICARE Managed Care Support Contractor to arrive no earlier than 60 days prior to and not later than 60 days after the termination of your TRICARE coverage.

Premium payments are $81 per month for TRS member-only coverage and $253 per month for TRS member and family coverage. For further information go to the TRS Web site

TRS provides a TRICARE Standard-like benefit, which pays for 80 percent of approved benefit costs. The remaining 20 percent cost-shares are paid by the member, along with deductibles of $150 per person or $300 per family. To help limit your out-of-pocket expenses, MOAA offers a TRS insurance supplement that covers cost-shares up to the annual TRS Catastrophic cap, as well as excess charges that cannot be applied to the cap. For more information on MOAA's insurance supplement call 1-800-247-2192, e-mail moaa@marshpm.com, or visit www.moaainsurance.com.
