Director’s Notes: JROTC Medals and Roster Submissions

Season’s greetings!

As we begin to wrap up a very busy and successful chapter year, I want to thank each of you for your support of the Council and Chapter Affairs team here at national MOAA. I am extremely grateful for your continued support of our programs and ongoing efforts to strengthen and grow healthy chapters. This final newsletter of 2017 is chock full of important information to help serve you and your members. Please share with your members:

Junior ROTC (JROTC) medal pricing. Effective Jan. 1, 2018, the price for the JROTC medal will decrease to $3 per medal. This price includes the medal and a MOAA/USAA cobranded card inside a polybag and is almost a 50-percent decrease from the present cost.

Note: The subsidized medal supply is not infinite. To ensure an equitable distribution of medals for all of our affiliates, we are requesting each chapter order only what is needed to support your programs. We recommend you order an amount similar to your 2017 medal numbers. All medal orders will be processed through Target Marketing and the MOAA Store.

Chapter access to database. Some of you have inquired about roster submissions. We request you refrain from submitting chapter rosters at this time. We are very close to implementing a new process that will allow designated chapter personnel (president and membership chair) access to the MOAA database to update their chapter roster information. With this access, designated members will be able to update officer forms and add new members to the database. Stand by for further guidance in early January.

Finally, I must share some personnel news. Our program director, Lt. Col. Clarence Counts, USA (Ret), will be departing MOAA to pursue new opportunities. His last day will be Dec. 22. Clarence has been a great asset to the Council and Chapter Affairs Department, and he will be sorely missed. Please reach out to Clarence and bid him a fond farewell.

Contact me or email chapters@moaa.org if you have questions.

Happy holidays to all!

— Col. Terri Coles, USA (Ret), senior director, Council and Chapter Affairs
