Mountain Resorts

Craving a mountain getaway? Here are three ideas, with military discounts of up to 50 percent.

Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains

The Chateau Resort at the base of Camelback Mountain offers a 50-percent military discount on weekdays (25 percent off on weekends). The 152-room hotel is in Tannersville, near Delaware Water Gap National Park, the Appalachian Trail, and the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Rail. Regular rates vary by season but range from around $109 to $129 a night, so with your discount accommodations are quite affordable. “My brother [serves in the] Marine Corps, and we understand how difficult serving can be on family, so we have tried to make this offer as generous as we could,” says General Manager John Warnagiris. Use discount code MWR2014. This discount is valid through Dec. 23, 2014. Call (570) 629-5900.

The Valley Inn, in the scenic four-season resort area of Waterville Valley, offers a 20-percent military discount to active duty, reserve, and retired servicemembers. The 42-room hotel is near the Town Square, strolling distance to shopping and dining, with a free shuttle to the ski area. Call (800) 343-0969.

Oregon’s Cascade Mountains

Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls is a full-service Southern Oregon resort, just across the California border and near Crater Lake. Worried about Oregonian clouds? Fear not: The location boasts a mild climate and 300 days of sunshine. The hotel offers a 20-percent military discount, plus $39 golf (includes cart) for active duty military ($59 on weekends). Servicemembers also enjoy dining discounts, and kids under age 12 eat free. Call (800) 569-0029.
