Where does the best snow go? To the mountains, of course. So if skiing is your thing, you should go there, too. We found these three military offers.

Vacation rentals in Asheville, N.C.

Private home or chain hotel? If you’d rather stay in a home (or secluded cabin, penthouse condo, or luxurious lodge), a vacation rental might be the sort of vacation for you. Carolina Mornings , an Asheville vacation rental company, offers active duty servicemembers and veterans a flat $50 discount for any reservation. Choose from more than 100 unique properties, starting at $159 a night. If the whole family is traveling together, you’ll have more room, can prepare meals in a gourmet kitchen, and then can gather around the table together. Many properties have luxury features such as private hot tubs, swimming pools, and saunas. You’ll also get seasonal attraction tickets with every reservation, offering ski lift and other discounts (and zip lines and whitewater rafting in summer). Why Asheville, you wonder? Gay Weber, the company’s marketing officer (and a U.S. Navy veteran), notes that Asheville is on the top 10 list of travel destinations: “Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is the epicenter of the craft-beer movement, the farm-to-table movement, and mountain crafts, music, and outdoor activities. We are surrounded by mountain bike trails, hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail), the Blue Ridge Parkway, and just about anything else you could desire outdoors.” Call (866) 498-4896, and ask for your military discount when making your reservation.

Upscale lodge in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Your stay includes a chef-prepared breakfast, evening wine and cheese with hot appetizer, and fresh fruit and home-baked cookies available 24/7. Rooms have fireplaces, a personal porch or balcony, free Wi-Fi, plush robes, and high-end bath amenities. The discount is valid through April 2016. Call (370) 739-1411 and mention your military status.

Ski nearly free in North Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows ,a mountain resort in Lake Tahoe, offers active duty servicemembers a Silver Tahoe Super Pass, good for the rest of the 2016 ski season, for $25. (Passes regularly go for $83 a day.) Your $25 is donated to the nonprofit organizations Military to the Mountains and 22 Kill, both of which support military members and veterans. Download and fill out this form, and then show it with your active duty military ID at the Guest Services and Sales Center at Squaw Valley or Alpine Meadows. The offer is not valid Feb. 13-14.
