Major General McClain received a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Oklahoma State University and a master's degree from Troy State University in Alabama and is a graduate of executive level-national security courses at Harvard University in Massachusetts, Syracuse University in New York, and Seminar XXI with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A career personnel officer, she had staff tours as well as operational command tours at Air Force group, wing, and center levels. Her final active duty assignment was commander of the Air Force Personnel Center. In retirement, she is a consultant and active volunteer at local public schools.
