Mission

The mission of this organization is to promote the aims of the Military Officers Association of America; foster fraternal relations among retired, active and former officers of the uniformed services and their National Guard or reserve components; protect the rights and interests of active duty, retired, reserve and National Guard personnel of the uniformed services, and their dependents and survivors; provide useful services for members and their dependents and survivors; and to serve the community and the nation.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Being a member of a Chapter provides opportunities to meet and network with people who share your values of patriotism, honor, and selflessness. Help keep us a strong and vital force in protecting past, present, and future uniformed service members and their families --- join the Sweetwater Chapter. Please contact the Chapter President or Membership Chairperson named above for more information.

Chapter Activities

The Sweetwater Chapter meets monthly (see the “About Our Chapter” section below for details). During these meetings there is a “program” period of 20-30 minutes during which a speaker makes a presentation of interest to the members. These speakers may be, for example, military personnel, representatives of organizations providing services to veterans, civil dignitaries, law enforcement officers, or simply someone able to share something that’s interesting or amusing. The Chapter directly supports JROTC units in four area high schools. The Chapter often participates in the different veteran oriented, and other, “resource” events held at various times and places throughout the San Diego area, and regularly encourages its members to assist with the advocacy of particular issues at the federal, state or local levels. Our community involvement, as a Chapter and individually, helps to bridge the gap between the 1% who have chosen to serve and the 99% who have not served.

Legislative Issues

Sweetwater Chapter members support MOAA advocacy efforts by providing grassroots support needed to pass legislation, at the federal and state levels, that protects and enhances benefits for retired, active and former military members and their families. Collectively, Chapter members have a greater impact on their community and the lives of those in the military yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

General Information

Sweetwater Chapter has approximately 70 members. The Chapter publishes a monthly newsletter, The Mariners Log, containing news of Chapter happenings, member doings, and information useful to Chapter members. Of late, the Chapter initiated a Face Book page as “Sweetwater Chapter – MOAA”, and may be found in MOAA Connect. The Sweetwater Chapter and its members are very active within MOAA and the civilian community. This is evidenced by the Chapter being the recipient of a MOAA 4-star Level of Excellence Award and nine 5-star Awards over the past 10 years.

About Our Chapter

Formed in December 1972, the Sweetwater Chapter of MOAA serves the lower southwest part of California. General meetings are normally held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 1100-1300, in the Anchors Catering facility located at the intersection of Yama St. and Main St., San Diego CA (Bldg 3210 located outside and adjacent to the Main Street Gate of Naval Base San Diego). All members, potential members, and their guests are welcome to join us for a short business meeting, delicious lunch, program, and friendly socializing.
