Founded on love of country, pride in the Armed Forces, and a commitment to service and support for those who have served in the past, those who serve now, and those who will serve in the future, the Southeast Michigan Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) seeks to become a leading military service organization in the region.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership in the Chapter is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses.

Chapter Activities

The Chapter holds three General Membership events throughout the year: Spring General Meeting (April), Chapter Birthday Picnic (June) and Holiday Dinner Dance (December). In addition, we support the International Armed Forces Council Dinner (May), the Retiree Appreciation Day event at Selfridge Air National Guard Base (September), and the Veteran’s Memorial Service in Detroit (November).

Legislative Issues

Interested members work with national and state government representatives in advocating for military related legislation. We represent Michigan MOAA members on a rotating basis with the other chapters during the annual MOAA Storming the Hill event.

General Information

The Executive Committee meets at least four times per year on Saturday morning. Meeting times and location are published in the Chapter Annual Calendar. For additional information about the Chapter, please contact Chapter President Roy Yaple, CDR, USN, (Ret) at email:

About Our Chapter

The Southeast Michigan Chapter was chartered in 1960 and is one of three in Michigan (Capitol Chapter in Lansing and Army-Navy Club of Grand Rapids). We have approximately 100 members in an eight county area including the cities of Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Flint and Selfridge Air National Guard Base. We actively support the JROTC and ROTC medal programs at local high schools and universities, personally making the award presentation whenever feasible. We are directly involved with Army Recruiting in the Detroit area through the Army’s Centers of Influence Campaign.
