The mission of NWFMOA is to benefit the members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors and to advocate a strong national defense, while providing needed support to the community and its members.

Membership in NWFMOA is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. NWFMOA holds 12 meetings a year featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to its members. Our annual Military Ball/Christmas Dance to benefit our Scholarship Fund is held each December. In addition, the chapter's Scholarship Fund awards multiple college scholarships to local JROTC members who will be participating in an active ROTC program and to ROTC students from our local area who meet established criteria. The chapter is very involved with community outreach programs; for example, we provide commissary gift cards to E4s and below who are in need, the Wreaths Across America program, Valentines for Vets, and other local charitable activities. 

NWFMOA supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and we actively engage our Congressional Representative and Senators on topics impacting Veterans and issues important to our local military community. We invite our elected officials to speak to the chapter. One of our members is currently a state representative and an active participant in many legal issues affecting our military members both local and state-wide. The chapter is also active in supporting the state council on various state veterans' issues.

NWFMOA meetings are lunch meetings held on the first Thursday of each month at the Fort Walton Yacht Club. The Northwest Florida Military Officers' Association, Inc. (NWFMOA) was chartered in 1959 as an independent association and has been affiliated with Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) since 1964. It serves the Panhandle of Florida, primarily Okaloosa, Walton, and Santa Rosa counties and Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), Hurlburt Field AFB, Duke Field and the Army 7th Special Forces military communities (Camp Bull Simons). The NWFMOA is a registered 501(c)(19), Veteran Organization. The chapter also houses a 501(c)(3) Scholarship Fund, Inc. which funds scholarships for local graduating JROTC cadets and college junior and senior ROTC cadets from our local area.  Monthly general membership meetings are held at the Fort Walton Yacht Club beginning at 1130 hours. The chapter also publishes a monthly newsletter, The Defender. The chapter currently has approximately 230 members made up of active, former, and retired officers and their spouses from all branches of the uniformed services. In addition to Voting Members, we also have Auxiliary, Honorary and Associate Memberships as allowed by IRS definition and size relative to our Veteran membership.
