As an executive coach, I love a good assessment tool – not only for myself, but also for my clients. But with so many tools out there, how can you be sure which ones are legitimate? In other words, which ones are worth your precious time and hard-earned treasure?

Here are a few considerations:

  • Purpose: What am I trying to learn or gain from the assessment?
  • Practicality: Is this just for fun (which is OK!), or can I apply acquired insights to my life in a meaningful way?
  • Pedigree: Who designed the survey? What are their credentials and/or background?
  • Proof: Upon what data or science is the survey based?
  • Personal Touch: In what way can these insights strengthen me as a person or leader?
  • Payoff: What are some of the online testimonials and/or feedback from those who have taken the assessment?
